Mini Comics are a great and quick way to tell stories in a comic format. They can be about anything, from a holiday travel-log to a music fanzine, from superhero fantasy to futuristic collage. There is no limit to what can be created.

The event will run between 13:00 and 17:00 on Sat 21st April in Bewick Hall in Newcastle Central Library. Anyone can come along at anytime. It’s free and open to all, no prior comic making experience is needed.

Before the start of the Mini Comic Making session (11:30) some local comic gurus will be giving some presentations. The first to declare an intention are;
Paul Thompson “Comics: words + pictures where space = time”
Ingi Jensson “Embracing our own originality > and the dangers involved!!”

All presentations are free but as numbers are limited pre-booking with the library closer to the date is essential.

The workshop day helps children explore creative writing, including descriptive words, adverbs, adjectives at word and sentence level in a hands-on, physical and exciting way.

This time the parents joined in and we had a right good time drawing our own Manga characters into a pre-made comic that I (Ingi) had prepared for the class, but was missing some vital elements…   The kids were a delight to work with (the parents too) and I’m looking very much forward to see how they will incorporate these Manga lessons into their final comic assignment.

Today was the third time Ingi taught Manga Drawing at Hemlington Hall Primary. The kids, as in the past lessons, did excellent.  Today we focused on speech-bubbles, framing and special effects as: WHAM! – BANG! – KAZAAAM!  Next week they will be drawing Manga with their parents, I just hope they can draw as good as the kids!

The NewYear starts of with BANG! and KAPAUW! at TeesToons with a How To Draw Manga course.  This is the second time that Ingi works with the Year 3 kids at Hemlington Hall Primary and their inspiring teachers. Today we focused on drawing a head in Manga style and trying out various expressions. Needless to say the kids were great and worked extremely well  - so the next three sessions are bound to be fun!

Harry and Tylor even made drawings of Ingi.

The Canny Comic Con in Newcastle was a smashing success. – It lived up to its name and was as ‘canny’ as it could have been.

My highlights of the day were the two walk-in-workshops I gave. There was no lack of active kids crowding the table with much enthusiasm and oozing creativity  …and their parents, of course, who also had to draw – since anyone who sat at the table had to take part …for those are the rules of TeesToons

Needless to say, I had a great time and I hope that all those that took part did as well!

Swan lives in the Kröller-Müller Museum sculpture garden in the Netherlands.

Everyone looks at Swan. They think she is so beautiful! But in the evening, when all the visitors have gone, Swan feels all alone. So she goes off with Cloud Shepherd looking for a playmate, someone to play and swim and fly with. Would you like to help her look?

Ingi has put together a collection of his comics to sell at the Canny Comic Con in Newcastle on the 10th of December in Newcastle City Library.

It’s a 16 page newspaper-print that was printed by the good people at the Newspaper Club - (We recommend their services!!)
